I had the pleasure of getting to know Gen (Genevieve) through another friend, Frances (the star of Pod 12). As we were chatting about me coming down to see her in South Devon, Frances quickly told me that she knew a fab lady, with a fab career, who would make a great podcast on her own; and kindly offered to do an intro.
A quick social and Linked In stalk of Gen and I knew Frances was right. Why? Because the world of PR is one that we all find fascinating, just like we do the world of advertising; and the agency side of both is particularly fascinating to both, hence why we've watched TV shows like Mad Men in our droves.
And Gen's story does not disappoint. Not (just) because she's had an amazing 25+ year career jet-setting around the world for famous fashion brands, but because of how she started, and how she earned that lifestyle and therefore, the amazing reputation she's got today...
... Through tenacity, hard work (a lot of), and an innate, unshakable amount of self-belief.
So if you've ever fancied a job in PR, and if you have the flexibility to commit to the hours of one (it's NOT a 9-5), then 100% give Gen's pod a listen - if you haven't already. She graciously discusses the highs and lows, along with the vital keys to success.

PS. In case any of you follow me on social, you'll know that I had a terrible hour recently with technology; which mostly included one of my (two) microphone leads splitting just before a pod chat. The chat was with Gen, and about 50 minutes before the pic here, I was sitting in that same chair crying. However, I calmed down and figured it out, and tucked behind my macbook is one solitary mic carrying the load for two and doing me proud, as I hope you'll agree.
PPS. You may well hear, occasionally, a strange whistling and squeaky trumping sound... It's the wind. The actual, literal wind. Outside my hotel room a pretty bad storm was raging and my windows were getting a bit of battering. Fun, fun.
